Stormwater

Stormwater run-off is water from rain or melting snow that "runs off" across the land instead of seeping into the ground.  This runoff usually flows into the nearest stream, creek, or lake.  On its way, runoff can pick up and carry many substances that pollute water.

For more detailed information, visit  www.WNCstormwater.org.

The Town of Laurel Park is developing a program to meet the Federal Phase II Stormwater Program requirements.  This program contains six minimum measures:

  • Public Education and Outreach

  • Public Involvement and Participation

  • Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination

  • Construction Site Run-Off Controls

  • Post-Construction Site Run-Off Controls

  • Pollution Prevention and Good Housekeeping for Municipal Operations

During the coming year, Laurel Park will be developing a variety of programs and informational sources to carry out these minimum measures.  A few examples include:

  • Television PSAs

  • Print ads

  • Informational brochure

  • Articles for the Town Newsletter

  • Training for Town employees

  • A Stormwater Ordinance

  • Illicit Discharge Hotline -- call 693-4840 if you observe an illicit discharge.  Illicit discharges include waste oil, soap from a washing machine, paint, solvents, etc. released into the stormwater system.   For more information visit  www.WNCstormwater.org.
