The North Carolina Department of Transportation has scheduled improvements to US 64 from Blythe Street to White Pine Drive (Project # U-5783). DOT held public input meetings for the design in November 2016, and again in September 2017.

Based on the September meeting, and additional input from the public and Town Council, the plan was finalized as a 2-lane road with roundabouts at White Pine Drive, Daniel Drive, Pisgah Drive, and Glasgow Lane, with sidewalks, and bike lanes, with green space between the sidewalk and bike lane.
